What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is simply being aware of what is happening right now without wishing it were different; enjoying the pleasant without holding on when it changes (which it will); being with the unpleasant without fearing it will always be this way (which it won’t). – James Baraz

Instead of living in the virtual world of thoughts, beliefs, judgments, and stories, we are connected to the life within and around us. The practice of living mindfully, helps us notice the moments when we’ve left this vibrant, body and compassionate heart.

Life becomes more than just moving from one activity to the next and the next. We pause, to actually be with what we’re experiencing moment to moment. Instead of living consumed in the world of thoughts, we live in a vibrant, alive, aware space; the world of living, loving, and dying. We stop avoiding certain experiences and feelings and instead learn to open to life; connecting with wisdom (clear seeing) and compassion.

Developing a consistent practice strengthens our ability to stay present for all of life’s experiences (joy, sorrow, etc).

We learn to shift from reacting in ways that divide and hurt us to responding in ways that connect and heal. We also gain spiritual friends along the way and this is where the practice helps us open our hearts.

These meetings include a talk on the practices of Mindfulness and Compassion, a guided meditation and end with a period of Mindful Sharing.  Practicing in community helps us deepen our knowledge and learn from each other. It is a transformational and healing experience that helps us open our hearts and minds to life.

What is Dana?

WB Mindfulness is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, supported entirely by donations, volunteers, and its community members. The ancient Pali word "Dana", meaning "generosity" or "giving", is a voluntary expression of appreciation and gratitude. The principle of Dana maintains a tradition that has spread the dharma for around 2,500 years until today. Your donations help us to continue to offer scholarships and cover the cost to keep the Sangha alive and help share this peaceful practice with the world.  We run WB Mindfulness on the principles of Buddhism and generosity. Suggested starting donation is $15  per session but no one will ever be turned away and signing up does not require a payment. We support the honor community at WB Mindfulness.
